Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra set to perform in Kirkland April 23
The Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra’s (SRJO) 2016-17 concert series continues on April 23 with aperformance in Kirkland.
The concert will be at 2 p.m. at the Kirkland Performance Center (350 Kirkland Ave) and feature the earlymusic of trumpet legend Louis Armstrong.
Jazz was born in New Orleans and Armstrong was the first great soloist of the emerging American art form.This concert features jazz works from Armstrong’s earliest years with Kid Ory’s band in New Orleans, hisearliest recordings in Chicago with King Oliver and with his own groups — the Hot Five and Hot Seven —plus music from his early years in New York as a featured soloist with the Fletcher Henderson Orchestraand other big bands.
Guest vocalist Butch Harrison joins SRJO to pay tribute to Armstrong with songs like “La Vie En Rose” and“What A Wonderful World.”

Single tickets are $49.
Discounts are available on single-ticket sales to seniors, students and groups. Most SRJO concerts sell out,so advance purchase is highly recommended. In an effort to encourage attendance by young people atSRJO subscription series concerts, SRJO is offering tickets for all jazz fans ages 25 and younger at $15.
